Why Vancouver suits heat pumps
Mild winters, wet air and hotter summers
A heat pump moves heat instead of burning fuel, and it does that best in cool, damp weather like ours. Most Metro Vancouver nights sit above freezing, so the system runs in its comfortable range for much of the season. Summers have changed the picture too. More homes want cooling now, and the same unit provides it.
Ranges are approximate and shown for comparison. Rated lows vary by model, and output drops as it gets colder. We pick equipment for your house, not for the brochure.
Local crew
Why it helps to hire someone who works in your neighbourhood
We know the houses
Post-war homes with baseboards, character houses on narrow lots, laneway homes, strata condos. Each one asks for a different plan.
Electrical done properly
Most installs need a dedicated circuit and a permit. We check your panel at the first visit so install day holds no surprises.
Placement with neighbours in mind
Outdoor units hum. We plan the spot around bedroom windows, property lines and snow or rain exposure.
Paperwork off your plate
Provincial and BC Hydro programs change. We check what applies when we quote and help you submit it.

Ductless or ducted
Two ways to put a heat pump in your home
The right choice depends on what you already have in the walls and ceilings. We will tell you which one fits at the visit, even when it is the cheaper option.
Best for
Ductless mini-splits
Homes with baseboard or hydronic heat, additions, basement suites and rooms that never feel right. An indoor head on the wall connects to the outdoor unit through a small line set, so no ductwork is needed.
- Single or multi-zone, each room set on its own
- Often finished in a day for one indoor unit
- Filters the air in the room it serves
Best for
Ducted heat pumps
Homes with a gas or electric furnace and working ductwork, plus renovations and new builds. The system uses your existing ducts to heat and cool the whole house from one place.
- Even temperature through every room
- Can pair with a furnace as a dual-fuel backup
- No wall-mounted units to see

Permits and booking
We order the equipment, pull the electrical permit where one is needed and set an install date that works for you. Condo owners get help with the strata request.
-

Questions
What Vancouver homeowners ask us
Do heat pumps work well in Vancouver winters?
Yes. Our mild, damp winters suit a heat pump well. Most nights stay above freezing, and cold-climate models keep heating well below -20°C, so the occasional cold snap is not a problem.
Can a heat pump replace my gas furnace or electric baseboards?
In most homes it can. Ductless units suit houses with baseboards or hydronic heat. Ducted systems suit homes with an existing furnace and ductwork. Some owners keep the furnace as a backup in a dual-fuel setup. We tell you at the assessment which route fits your house.
How much does a heat pump cost in Vancouver?
A single-zone ductless install often lands between $4,500 and $8,000 before rebates. Multi-zone systems usually run $9,000 to $18,000, and whole-home ducted systems can go higher. Electrical work, line length and outdoor placement change the final price, so we quote in writing after seeing the home.
Do I need an electrical panel upgrade?
Many installs need a dedicated circuit, and older homes sometimes need a panel upgrade. We check the panel at the first visit and put any electrical work in the quote, so the number you approve is the number you pay.
Are heat pumps loud?
Indoor units are usually very quiet and outdoor units produce a soft hum. Placement matters more than brand, so we plan the outdoor unit location around windows and property lines.
What rebates are available for heat pumps in BC?
Provincial and BC Hydro programs change often, so we confirm what is available when we quote and help with the paperwork.
Do you service heat pumps another company installed?
Ask us about your make and model. We look after systems we did not install, and we will tell you plainly if a repair is not worth the money.
